Ran across your simplified list of everything on formatting in one page - it is the best of the best. Wish I saw this before jumping around from site to site to understand why Word made inconsistent formatting on Kindle - and the culprit was various styles in the document. Printing out this for great reference. Thanks!!

Thanks for this post! To say I hate converting to Kindle is an understatement but your tips definitely helped our book look not too bad. Wonder why it is so easy to convert to a Kobo format but so difficult to convert to Kindle? (just to make our lives interesting, I guess) Thanks again!

Hey Kevin,

This was my first time publishing to Kindle and spacing was a problem to figure out. Many tutorials say to use "Shift+Enter" to add a space, but this produced no space for me. I found the best way to add extra space to the front matter was simply to hit "Enter".

And, just out of pure visual preference for me, even though most books have no space between paragraphs, I set a small space between paragraphs in the paragraph settings of the "Normal" style. I saw many examples of Kindle eBooks that chose to do this so I just went ahead and did it.

Kindle has for some time honored "enter" for blank lines only randomly. Thus the majority of books on Kindle have no blank space between paragraphs.
